levitation
Levitation in photography is the art of making your subject jump in the right way and taking the picture at the right time, using the right shutter speed, to make it seem as though they are flying or levitating. This was one of the most fun projects to do! I really enjoyed the satisfactory feeling you get when the photo turns out correctly.
Next to this are some examples of Yowa Yowa's photography and below are some photos I took to try and replicate the same effects!

Zoom blur
Zoom Blur is a style of photography where you use a slow shutter speed so that while your taking the photograph you zoom into the subject(s) while the camera is taking the photographs. If done correctly, you end up with an image that seems as though the subject(s) were moving even though they aren't.
What I was trying to do with this task was to create a successful zoom blur that seems as though the subjects were moving without them having to.
Francesca Woodman
Francesca Woodman (1958-1981) is a photographer famous for black and white photos that involve the subjects blurring into the background. The subjects were often women, including herself, either naked or dressed in flowery dresses. She died at the age of 22 from jumping to her death. I like Francesca's work as it is very spooky and it leaves a mark in your memory. It is not something easily forgotten! I will try to recreate the work she did on the subjects that were only partly moving. I will do this using a low shutter speed.
Good description. Give your opinions about her work and why. How will you make work inspired by hers?
Keep the current photos you've shot on here but re-shoot this project. The idea is that the background is completely in focus but your subject isn't. Ensure that the subject moves but that the camera stays still.

romain laurent
Romain Laurent was born in 1983 in the French alps however studied and worked, for a part of his life, in Paris. He is now based in Los Angeles where he works for advertising companies and fashion companies. His photography work is very original, consisting of his 'tilt' series and his 'GIF' series. I like his work as it is very original, inspiring and often funny. It makes you wonder how he managed to do it and also makes you want to pick a camera up and try it out for yourself. Below are some examples of Romain Laurent's work.
Although I said that seeing Roman Laurent's work was inspiring and fun, I didn't enjoy making the GIFs as much as I enjoyed other projects. I still
Michael bossanko and light trails
Michael Bossanko creates light imagery with an important message behind it. For example, the photo above is called,"Tree of Life", and he made this photograph to make people Think about the amount of trees that are disappearing and how that is going to affect us in the future. His images are trying to create a réaction within people to Start trying to help the cause he is advertising. Michael creates these images by using very basic material. He uses torches, flow sticks and using a long exposer on his camera. He has adapted his style of light painting since 2004 and has now got it down to a tee.
As afore mentioned, Michael is always trying to get a message across to the viewer through the photograph. In the piece above, Michael is, like I mentioned, trying to tell the viewer about the lack of trees in our day and age. This is shown mainly by the location of the shoot. It is in a dry, deserted are where there almost definetely used to have plants and trees and away from all kinds of civilisation. The way the tree sprouts up from the ground is a comment on how things could be if humans weren't so destructive. Michael has used multiple different lights in this photograph which creates a real sense that the tree could be real and flowering beautifully as shown in the art. Michael's use of light is very original as it is not used for the sole pressure of viewing, although it is too, but more used as a kind of illusion to trick the viewer into momentarily thinking it us real and then making them realise that our combien destructive behaviour is responsible for this tree not being there in real life. It is truly art with a message. Below are some of my tries, although They dont include a message just yet, it was really fun trying to create different images with torches and lights. Especially with friends. |
Light gifs and travelling without moving
With the light GIFs, I was trying to create a surréaliste kind of image of light moving without the viewer able to realise how I did it. The light GIFs, although not physicalisme moving like normal GIFs, are still a part of the theme of movement as they are a representation of how light around us is always moving. And that is a part of movement in itself.
WWW: The GIF I chose to do was easy and i was able to do it rather quickly. The outcome, though slightly cropped, came out as I wanted it to.
EBI: It would've been better if i'd chosen a more complicated task or more elaborate.

Doing the travelling without moving task was fun and it also gave my partner and I an opportunity to experiment with the task. What i wanted to create was a séries of photographs that were made to look like we were moving without taking a video or moving our legs.
For my personal project I decided to do a bit more work on travelling without moving. I was very lucky to have my friend jai (visit his website https://jaisharmaphoto.weebly.com here) willing to go along with my ideas! I think this turned out better than the last one I did as I was more experienced and I did it outside with better lighting. Enjoy!
WWW: I was really proud of the outcome of the GIFs! For a first time attempt I Think that my partner and i did well
EBI: I wish it could've been longer. Then it would have been more successful.

personal shoot (francesca woodman inspired)
I was original trying to go out and take some Yowa Yowa inspired levitations but I accidentally had my shutter speed to slow and the photo turned out pretty well so I decided to do some Francesca woodman work instead! My partner Aaran (check out his website https://aaranmitra.weebly.com) helped me loads and was very patient. Below is how it turned out!
These are the ones I selected for the project! Thank you!
